Yes, people want to preplan and pre-pay for funerals online.

Yes, there are people who want to preplan and pre-pay for funerals online.

No, they’re not just direct cremation shoppers.

According to a recent study we did with Passare and McKee Wallwork + Co., 45% of participants said they would preplan and pre-pay for their funeral.

Another 31% was undecided. We take that to mean they can be encouraged to preplan if given the proper resources and education.

Even better if families can do it all online.

People are already doing many things online, from researching to making big purchases.

It’s inevitable that some funeral consumers will want to preplan and pay for their funeral online. In fact, they’re already doing it.

But how does it work?

In this clip from our FD Talks podcast, Rob Davidson (VP of Creative Services) sits down with Drew Seale (now EVP and CMO of Funeral Directors Life), who explains how the online preplanning process works and how it’s similar to how people shop online for other services today.

In the clip…

Drew says:

“If I’m wanting to go buy a car, I’m going to go online and start searching for my ideal car.

But if I’m going to a place that doesn’t have pricing or if I see that it doesn’t have pricing for me to look at, I’m going to move onto the next place. Then, I’m going to see what value they can bring to me.

From that point on, I’ll try to maybe customize my own car just to see what it might be like.

And I’ll call whoever has the best value, in my opinion – not necessarily the cheapest. Just because I’m looking online doesn’t mean I want to cheapest route.

I just want to be educated and want to see the value that [a company] can bring to me.”

Think about your funeral home

Now put yourself in your families’ shoes.

If a family were to go to your website:

– Could they be able to start the preplanning process right away?

– Are there different price points or plans for them to look at to make educated decisions for themselves?

– Could they find resources, like articles or videos, to help them learn more about funeral terminology?

– Would they be able to plan the details for their service and even pre-pay for everything online?

If not, it’s time to look for a solution that will help families plan online with your funeral home and grow your preneed volume. Especially so they don’t turn to your competition.

We call this solution Arrangement Guide, the best way to help families preplan and pre-pay for a funeral online.
