      <title>FDLIC Employees Join the Fight Against Cancer</title>
      <link>http://www.funeraldirectorslife.com:-1/news/helpers-of-people/fdlic-employees-join-the-fight-against-cancer</link>
      <description>This year's Relay for Life was held on April 24th, 2009 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Friday through Saturday in Abilene, TX. This all-night event honors those who have battled against cancer and raises funds for the American Cancer Society. FDLIC employees participated this year in two teams, a running team and a walking team, both led by Alvino Sanchez (Fulfillment Center Coordinator).&#xD;
&#xD;
Each team was composed of 15 participants. "This year we also had about 10 more volunteers who came out to show their support, set up our camp, and help us count laps," said Alvino. "The team spirit is always great. We had several employees stay into the wee hours of the night to support our teams, and several people stayed up here all night long."&#xD;
&#xD;
Many of the FDLIC volunteers have a personal connection to the cause of the American Cancer Society and participated in honor of a loved one. "I have several family members and friends who have lost their battle to cancer," said Alvino. "I participate because it is a cause that touches so many of us. We continue the battle against cancer by helping to fund research to find new treatments and maybe even a cure for cancer some day."&#xD;
&#xD;
As a company, FDLIC raised $6,400.00 dollars from several fundraisers and through employee payroll deductions. "We also did raffles, jean days, and garage sales here at the home office to raise money for the ACS. FDLIC matched our payroll deductions so we were able to give even more. I'd like to thank Kris for his commitment to serving others, and I'd also like to thank all of the FDLIC employees who continue to amaze me with their generosity. Our people really do make the difference."</description>
