Every year, FDLIC employees submit ballots to nominate fellow co-workers for the Bill Seale Memorial Employee of the Year Award. The award commemorates Bill Seale (former CEO and one of the original founders of the company) and recognizes an employee or employees who have consistently displayed the type of attitude that shapes the heart of FDLIC.

As Chuck Swindoll says, "I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it."

This year at FDLIC's End-of-Year Celebration and Awards Ceremony, nine employees were recognized by their peers as going above and beyond in their work performance as well as attitude. All nine were called to the front one by one: Amy Biggs, Susan Condry, Alvino Sanchez, and Angie Holmes (all winners of the award in previous years), and some newcomers to the group, Kelley Baber, Zack Shahan, Angie Hooker, Jessie Martin, and Jessica May.

Once all nine nominees were lined up at the front of the auditorium, FDLIC's President and CEO Kris Seale announced that things were going to be done a little different this year. "You all have been given envelopes and will receive an 'Above and Beyond' award," said Kris. "But only one of you will be named the Bill Seale Employee of the Year."

Suspense filled the room. Who would become this year's Employee of the Year?

"This is the point where we should go to a commercial break," Kris Seale joked with the audience. "Drum roll, please!" After a dramatic pause, Zack Shahan opened his envelope to find that he was the 2009 Employee of the Year.

The crowd roared. Zack was a clear favorite with the audience.

"I was overwhelmed with joy," said Zack after receiving the award. "It shows that good deeds don't go unnoticed at FDLIC, no matter how small."

"Zack is a great example of a person who serves quietly and with a consistently positive attitude," said Dawson Rodriguez, Executive VP and Chief Information Officer. "We're very proud of his accomplishments this year."

"I'm just glad to work for a company that cares for their employees beyond just a paycheck," said Zack. "They help us personally and spiritually too, and that is what is so special about working at FDLIC. The people here are great. I can't help but have a good time while I'm at work."
