Taking it to the Streets

Friday, June 18, 2010

The weekend of April 23rd marked the 19th annual Relay for Life held locally in Abilene, TX, FDLIC's headquarters. The Relay for Life is one of the largest fundraisers for the American Cancer Society, spanning the entire country. Participating FDLIC employees were put through their paces from Friday night through Saturday in this 12-hour event.

To raise money for the ACS, FDLIC employees held a garage sale, offered up items for silent auctions, and enrolled in payroll deductions.

Alvino Sanchez, Fulfillment Coordinator, organized this year's two teams. "We had a great turn out," said Alvino. "Over 60 FDLIC volunteers came out to participate or to cheer others on. Our team won several awards, including Most Money Raised and Most Spirited Team."

Jessie Martin (New Business) was a great example of the type of enthusiasm the FDLIC team took to the track. Jessie's shift was from 1:00-2:00 in the morning. "I really enjoyed it!" said Jessie. "This was my second year to go, and I've had a great time both times. They always play the best music! I also like to see the costumes people come up with. This year's theme was 'Happy Birthday,' and a lot of people had fun with it. I got my exercise, too. I finished up at two miles. I'm already looking forward to going next year!"
