FDLIC Showers Pregnancy Resources of Abilene With Gifts!
Wednesday, August 5, 2009
All through June, FDLIC collected donations of baby clothes, diapers, toys, and blankets for a special baby shower in honor of Pregnancy Resources of Abilene (PRA). PRA is a local non-profit organization that offers free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, counseling services, and material support to young mothers in the form of diapers, formula and clothing.
"We received so many donations this year!" commented Jyl Lopez (Marketing), who, along with Karin Haynes (Accounting), started the tradition of throwing a baby shower for PRA three years ago. "They do so much for the young mothers in our community. It's such a ministry for people to have a place to go where they know they'll receive good counsel and support without judgment. PRA literally changes lives, and we're glad to be a small part of that."
For the baby shower, Beth Milam (Policy Services) baked beautiful little bootie cakes, and everyone enjoyed a little cake and ice cream in celebration of PRA.
"Besides the many gifts we were able to give, PRA also received donations from FDLIC employees through payroll deductions. FDLIC matched those donations for a total of $1,500. I'm so proud to work for a company that truly cares and gives back," said Jyl.
It truly is amazing what a little caring can do. One of the nurses at PRA comments on their website, "My prayer before each sonogram is for the Lord to 'get me out of the way' and reveal Himself to the young lady, putting on the screen the image He wants her to see. Well, my prayer had never been fulfilled before like it was this past month when a 19-year-old, abortion-minded young woman came into the office. Once the ultrasound began, it was like I was not even in the room. The picture had never been more vibrant than at this moment as He revealed her beautiful baby girl. I witnessed firsthand the Holy Spirit comforting someone in crisis and her pain turn to joy. I saw Him soften a wounded heart so that this mommy would fall in love with her baby. I don't think she heard a word I said, but her words, 'I am keeping my baby,' will live with me forever."
When Jyl and Karin showed up with their gifts, the staff at PRA was thrilled. "It's such a blessing to be a part of this," said Karin. "To know that we're really making a difference in the lives of these babies and their mothers is just a wonderful feeling."
