FDLIC Partners with Texas Funeral Home to Lend Support to Orphans in El Salvador

FDLIC is pleased to be able to participate as "Helpers of People" with Beaty Funeral Home in Winsboro, TX. John Brent Beaty, owner and funeral director at Beaty Funeral Home, has a special connection to the orphans at Remar Orphanage in El Salvador. On several occasions, he has visited the facility with his church, Grace Fellowship. At the orphanage, he's seen the need for improved facilities, additional food stores, and medical care for the children. Before returning to El Salvador once again, Mr. Beaty and Beaty Funeral Home decided to raise funds for the children at the orphanage.
"Our church supports the work of this orphanage," Mr. Beaty explained. "And we wanted to help. To raise money for the orphanage, Beaty Funeral Home sponsored a golf tournament. The funeral home donated $1000, which was matched by FDLIC. As a result, we were able to take $4500 down to El Salvador on our next trip. With 130 children in the orphanage, it costs about $1200 per month just to feed them all. We were able to stock up their food supplies, rewire a dormitory, and take an eye doctor along with us to give them eye exams."
"This is what being Helpers of People is all about," said Sonia DeLeon, FDLIC's Director of Human Resources. "It's about providing for basic needs, and being there to demonstrate you care. This is the kind of thing we love to stand behind and support. We are so thankful to have been a part of making this trip possible."
"These children are so happy and thankful," said Mr. Beaty. "We wish we could do more! But we do what we can and we see that it is making a difference in their day-to-day lives. It's humbling...it's truly a blessing to be able to see that you're making a difference in the life of a child. We're grateful to FDLIC for the matching grant that allowed us to raise money to help these kids. It's a great program that helps us help others."
"We see our opportunity to match the charitable giving of our funeral home clients and our employees as a way of supporting worthy causes that are of importance and value to the people closest to us," said Kris Seale, FDLIC President and CEO. "This program has allowed us to help organizations and people far beyond our corporate circle of influence in an intentional and meaningful way."
