Delivering Hope: Meals on Wheels
Friday, June 10, 2011
FDLIC loves to support great causes like Meals on Wheels. In addition to matching employee donations to Meals on Wheels, employees of the company also donate their time delivering hot, fresh food with a side dish of hope to individuals across town.
Jyl Lopez (Marketing) and Karin Haynes (Accounting) were in charge of delivering meals this last week. On the route, they stopped in on Darlene, who has been receiving Meals on Wheels for four years. Darlene said that after her husband passed away, she moved to Abilene to be closer to her daughter. As her health has gotten worse, she has had to give up driving and counts on public transportation to get to the hospital. She receives Meals on Wheels every day and she is very appreciative of all they do. She hugged the girls and thanked them for stopping by and taking the time to visit with her.
"Darlene is such a sweet person! Getting to know her on our route has been such a joy," said Jyl. "On our route, we get to see first-hand what an incredible service this is, and how many people benefit from it every day. I'm just thankful to be a small part of it."
"I'd like to thank Kris (FDLIC President & CEO) for allowing us the time to deliver Meals on Wheels," added Karin. "It's such a blessing to us and to those we're serving!"
