Did you know...Millions of people have preplanned and prefunded their funeral arrangements.

We are Helpers of People!

FDLIC is characterized by people who really care. Our people want to be servants to one another, to our funeral home customers, to our sales managers and sales professionals, to our policyholders, and to our community. Many participate in volunteer activities such as Meals on Wheels, and by fundraising for the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer's Association, and the American Cancer Society among others. Many of those who lead others in these volunteer activities are driven by a personal connection to the non-profit organization, giving their time, money, and tireless efforts to seeing these organizations thrive. We believe that by continuing to place an emphasis on service not only within our work environment, but in our activities outside of work, we will have an even greater opportunity to give back to our communities and promote positive change in people's lives.

Thank you so much for your support of our work here at Colette's Children's Home and for the matching grant given through the "Helpers of People" Charitable Contributions Match Program in conjunction with Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. These funds mean so much to the women and children residing in our shelters. I am pleased to share that in 2009, Colette's Children's Home has taken over 400 women and children off the streets and given them shelter and the support they need to get their lives back together again. Thank you again for thinking of us, and have a happy, prosperous new year.

William O'Connell

Executive Director, Colette's Children's Home

American Heart Association

Throughout the year, FDLIC employees conduct fundraisers to raise support and awareness for the American Heart Association. Heart disease is still one of the leading causes of death in the U.S., and as such, is a very important and personal cause for many of our employees. Every year, FDLIC volunteers participate in the local "Heart Walk," which is the AHA's largest recurring fundraising event.

American Cancer Society

FDLIC is also involved in raising money and support for the American Cancer Society. Money is raised through payroll deductions, which FDLIC matches as a Company. Also, raffles and donations contribute to fundraising efforts. The funds go toward the 24-hour "Relay for Life."

Alzheimer's Association

Alzheimer's disease is another cause that is close to our hearts as a Company. Many of our employees have seen the devastating effects of this disease on family members and friends. As a Company, we participate in raising funds for the "Memory Walk," held every year.

Meals on Wheels

FDLIC volunteers also participate in our local Meals on Wheels program, delivering hundreds of hot meals to the ill and elderly every year. For many employees, delivering these meals is a moving experience. Many of the people who receive meals are home-bound or suffering illness, and the program allows them in some cases to remain in their homes instead of having to go to a hospital or long-term care facility.

Pregnancy Resources of Abilene

Every summer, FDLIC collects donations of baby clothes, diapers, toys, and blankets for a special baby shower in honor of Pregnancy Resources of Abilene. Pregnancy Resources is a local non-profit organization that offers free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, counseling services, and material support to young mothers. The organization is dedicated to providing a support network for pregnant young women who are facing difficult situations and are in need of health services or just someone to talk to.

Hearts of Hope Grief Camps

For the last several years, FDLIC has been involved in supporting and volunteering at grief camps for children in Minnesota. The camps are provided as a free service to grieving children, giving them a place to meet others who have lost a close loved one. The children participate in activities of memorialization and play that allow them to express their feelings and comfort one another. At the camps, they learn that they are not alone, and many times this makes it easier to begin to talk about and understand their loss. Every year, FDLIC sends volunteers loaded down with teddy bears for the children attending the camp.

The Abilene Youth Sports Authority

The AYSA is a local non-profit organization that FDLIC founded. The AYSA is an organization that promotes organized youth sports activities in our community. AYSA helps with registration fees, provides information about upcoming events, and acts as a streamlined central clearinghouse for youth league and tournament information. The mission of the AYSA is to promote family-based principles and the highest ideals of teamwork, sportsmanship, honesty, trust, and respect for authority with the specific purpose of influencing kids and adults to become better individuals.

Helpers of People Charitable Contributions Match Program

Our Helpers of People program also gives our client funeral homes the chance to make a difference in their own communities. The Helpers of People Charitable Contributions Match Program allows funeral homes to double their charitable contributions to non-profit organizations that are notably "helpers of people." In this way, funeral homes are able to assist charitable organizations in their own communities.
